Having survived last year as our first year coordinating the Hats for Hides Program, we are still looking forward to hearing from the Ontario Big Game Hunting Community. To clarify, the Hats for Hides Program is funded by CORDA (Canada Ontario Resource Development Agreement), not the MNR. Recently a steering committee, consisting of representatives from the MNR, OFAH, Program Coordinators and Depot Collectors has been established to guide the program within the allotted funds.

Based on number of deer and moose hides collected in the past few years, it has been determined that 40,000 hats and crests will be available to exchange for good hides for the 2009/2010 hunting season. It is very regretable that your hides cannot be exchanged in most Northern Ontario locations, as there is just not enough revenue in the hides to allow for pick up of the hides from these locations. The Hats for Hides steering committee is trying to find some solutions to this sitution for upcoming years and any changes will be posted on this website.

There has been a positive change to this year's program. All good (unspoiled hides) regardless of the size will receive a hat and crest. Please refer to our "Hide Handling" tab above for more information regarding good hides and spoiled hides.

Our endeavor is to keep this program going, So you the Big Game Hunter have the option to exchange your hide for a hat and crest if you chose to.
